Minister: Russia’s production, sales of cars to fall 15–30% in 2020
MOSCOW, Jun 3 (PRIME) – Russia’s car production and sales will fall by 15–30% in 2020, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told PRIME on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, there will definitely be a decrease, and we understand that, and we see and estimate the contraction of production and of the market in general from 15% to 30%. It is difficult to speak about specific figures for now, but we understand the situation more or less, so we have this range of indicators,” he said.
The existing 25 billion ruble state support should help the industry. The support measures include preemptive state procurements, programs of the Transport Ministry and regions for renewal of public transport fleets, he said.
Previously, the Association of European Businesses (AEB) said that Russia’s sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles (LCVs) plummeted by 72.4% on the year to 38,922 vehicles in April and fell by 19.1% to 415,102 in January–April.
